Ararat Mirzoyan Emphasizes the Importance of Launching the Gyumri-Kars Railway
During the “3+3 format” meeting at the foreign ministers’ level held in Istanbul on October 18, Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the importance of regional consultations and communications. This information was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He stated that Armenia is interested in unblocking all economic and transportation links in the region, referring to the “Peace Crossroads” initiative.
The implementation of this project is based on four key principles: respect for the sovereignty and jurisdiction of all states, as well as equality and reciprocity. If realized, the “Peace Crossroads” could become an integral part of global logistics routes, ensuring faster and more efficient transportation of goods.
In his opening remarks, Mirzoyan also addressed Armenia’s projects on the North-South highway and emphasized the use of Iran’s Chabahar port. He announced that construction of the Margara border checkpoint at the Armenia-Turkey border has been completed and touched upon the launch of the Gyumri-Kars railway.
Armenia and Turkey have already agreed to jointly assess the technical requirements for border crossing via the Gyumri-Kars railway. The launch of the Gyumri-Kars railway, together with the railway connection between Armenia and Azerbaijan, will immediately provide an efficient link between the Persian Gulf, Black Sea, Caspian Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea.
