Nobel Prize Ceremony has begun

The Nobel Prize ceremony kicked off on October 7. In the field of medicine, American scientists Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun have been awarded the Nobel Prize. They discovered microRNA, which plays a crucial role in gene regulation.

Their groundbreaking discovery revealed entirely new principles of gene regulation, which, as it turns out, are vital for multicellular organisms, including humans, according to the announcement.

Ambros is a professor at the University of Massachusetts, and Ruvkun is a professor at Harvard Medical School. Ruvkun also works at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

In 2023, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Hungarian scientist Katalin Karikó and American scientist Drew Weissman for their discoveries in the modification of nucleic acid bases, which led to the development of vaccines that helped in the fight against COVID-19.

This year’s Nobel Prize ceremony will take place from October 7 to 11.
