From November 1, new laws will come into effect for public transport users
Starting from November 1, 2024, it will be mandatory to either have a 100-dram coin or make a payment via a QR code using the installed payment system when using public transport, particularly buses of the MAN, ZhongTong, and GazelCity brands. This was announced by the mayor’s press secretary, Hayk Kostanyan, on his Facebook page.
The primary goal is to prevent possible shadow transactions and to ensure that drivers are not distracted from their main duties. Additionally, this is in preparation for the transition to a unified ticketing system expected from January 1.
The program aims to completely eliminate the practice of handing cash directly to drivers. It was also reported that in the last four months, the revenue of the “Yerevan Bus” company exceeded that of the previous four months by about 3.9%.
During the working days of September this year, around 30-32 million drams were collected.
