Armenia remains dependent on Russian wheat

During the conference titled “Crossroads of Peace: Connecting Security and Democracy,” Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan stated that strategic goods could shift, for instance, moving from wheat to rice.

Russia is Armenia’s primary wheat supplier. According to Armenia’s Customs Service, 343.6 thousand tons of wheat were imported to Armenia in 2023, 99% of which came from Russia.

Since 2019, the volume of wheat imported from Russia has increased. In 2019, 221.7 thousand tons of wheat were imported, and by 2023, this figure had grown by 120.9 thousand tons.
