The name of the head coach of Armenia’s national football team will be announced in January

The new head coach of Armenia’s national football team will be announced in January. This was stated by the President of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), Armen Melikbekyan, during the 25th regular session of the FFA. The President mentioned that the federation is currently negotiating with several well-known individuals and organizations.

We are not only looking to appoint a national team coach but also to implement global changes in Armenian football, including in the coaching staff and the academies of the national team. This initiative aims to revitalize Armenian football.

Last month, FFA Vice President Armen Nikoghosyan announced that the federation aims to appoint a foreign coach for the national team. One of the candidates being considered was Spanish football legend and Real Madrid icon Raúl, who is currently coaching Real Madrid’s youth team.

The national team dismissed its third coach in the last 5 years from the position of head coach (Abraham Khashmanyan (2020), Joaquin Caparros (2022), Alexander Petrakov (2024)). After the 4th round of the Nations League C Division D group, Armenia’s head coach Alexander Petrakov was dismissed from the national team. The Ukrainian specialist had been in charge of the Armenian national team for 18 matches, winning 4 of them. One of the victories was in a friendly match against Kazakhstan (2:1). Under his leadership, the national team finished 4 matches in a draw, one of which was also a friendly match against Cyprus (2:2). The remaining 10 matches ended in defeat.
