Call Center Engaged in Extorting Money from Foreigners
A call center operating in an office space on Voskerichner Street in Yerevan has illegally extorted large sums of money from foreigners by concealing its true purpose and the scale of its revenues, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The individuals at the center confirmed internet phone calls with foreign citizens and, abusing their trust, seized their money. Moreover, the alleged criminals posed as representatives of legal services and law enforcement agencies.
The call center specifically targeted foreigners, many of whom had previously fallen victim to fraud. Taking advantage of this and obtaining necessary information about the targeted individuals, employees of the center called foreigners, identified themselves as law enforcement officers, and demanded a fee to organize the process of recovering and returning the stolen funds.
The call center primarily operated after midnight, taking into account the time zones of various countries.
Currently, the police are collaborating with foreign law enforcement agencies to identify the citizens who have been victims of this criminal activity.
The investigation is ongoing.
