Criminal Case Against Former Director of Yerevan Metro Submitted to Anti-Corruption Court
The criminal case against Paylak Yayloyan, who headed the Yerevan Metro for 11 years, and others has been submitted to the Anti-Corruption Court by the prosecutor. This information comes from the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia. From 2008 to 2019, while serving as the director of the “Karen Demirchyan Yerevan Metro” company, Yayloyan is accused of committing large-scale and especially large-scale embezzlement. He is charged with embezzling approximately 367 million drams from the metro.
One of the charges alleges that he sold part of the metro’s premises to his eldest son at an incredibly low price through a sham auction. Citing that the space was not suitable for use, they transferred a basement area of 944.5 square meters. As a result of false reports and documents, the son of the company’s owner sold the area worth 194 million 880 thousand drams for 75 million 393 thousand drams.
Additionally, three drivers were employed at the Metro who, in fact, did not work there. Yayloyan took this step at the request of the former deputy secretary of the Yerevan City Hall. Later, these drivers served a city hall employee and his family. Several citizens were also hired but never worked at the Metro.
Charges have also been filed for the embezzlement of approximately 110,000 liters of gasoline.
The case against Paylak Yayloyan, his son, and four others has been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court. An alternative preventive measure of 5 million drams bail has been selected for Yayloyan, and a ban on leaving has been imposed on his son.
