Young Fish Released into Lake Sevan

On November 8, 300,000 young fish of the “Gegharkunik” subspecies, each weighing 8-10 grams, were released into Lake Sevan from the fish farm in Karchaghbyur, a village in Gegharkunik Province’s Vardenis community. Event participants toured the fish farm, familiarizing themselves with the conditions for raising “Varicorhinus” fish species in newly constructed ponds. The “Comprehensive Program for the Restoration of Trout Stocks in Lake Sevan: Preserving Heritage” presentation was organized on-site, where a report was delivered and various issues related to fish farming were discussed.

In May 2024, a similar event released approximately 87,000 young fish into the lake. Following this, 387,000 young fish of the “Summer Trout” and “Gegharkuni” subspecies were released.

The initiative was held under the conditions of a state program, supported by the Ministry of Environment, the Gegharkunik Governor’s Office, “Sevan Trout” CJSC, and the “Foundation for Restoration and Development of Sevan Trout Stocks.”
