Armenia Seeks to Strengthen Its Air Defense with Indian Armaments
As early as September, The Print reported that Armenia approached India with a proposal for the possible purchase of Indian missiles, as well as the potential modernization of its Su-30s.
Armenian-Indian relations have developed in recent years. Armenia aims to modernize four Su-30s in the first phase.
The Russian PESA radar will be replaced with the Uttam AESA radar, significantly improving detection and targeting capabilities.
The second option for cooperation involves the purchase of additional Su-30MKI fighters from India. Russia has been unable to deliver the eight Su-30SMs that Armenia had ordered, and they have yet to arrive.
During the 2024 International Defense Aviation Exhibition exercises, Chief of the Aviation Department of the Armenian Armed Forces, Hovhannes Vardanyan, mentioned that they are considering the possibility of modernizing Su-30 fighters with the help of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
