Alexander Lapshin has been released
Alexander Lapshin, detained at “Zvartnots” airport, was released. The police specified that Alexander Lapshin was arrested at the request of Belarus, not Azerbaijan. This was stated by lawyer Ruben Melikyan on Facebook live.
It is not about Interpol, but directly within the framework of interstate cooperation, or within the CIS, on the part of Belarus, the executor of which is the Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia.
This information was also confirmed by Advisor to the Prosecutor General Lusine Martirosyan, noting that Lapshin was arrested by the law enforcement bodies of the Republic of Belarus on a wanted list.
Having studied the documents, the prosecutor verbally instructed A. Lapshin not to arrest him. Lapshin is currently at large, – Martirosyan wrote.
Lapshin also actively published on his Facebook page. At first, he stated that he was arrested at the request of Azerbaijan, but later confirmed the fact that he was wanted by Belarus.
I was misled by one of the policemen at the airport, saying that Nikol Pashinyan was going to hand me over to Aliev. Then the police specified that I was arrested for “insulting the honor and dignity of the president of Belarus” and “calls to overthrow the democratically elected president of Belarus”.
The initiator of my arrest in Yerevan was Belarusian Ambassador to Armenia Alexander Konyuk. In 2017, he was the Prosecutor General of Belarus. It was he who signed the order to hand me over to Azerbaijan to visit Artsakh as a journalist.
Lapshin thanked the Armenian prosecutor’s office for not arresting him and handing him over to Belarus.
