Alexander Petrakov’s Work in Numbers: Concerning Results
The Armenian national team played a 2-2 draw in an away match against the Faroe Islands in Group D of Division C in the Nations League.
At the post-match press conference, the Ukrainian specialist mentioned that it was a tense game, and he did not want to point out any specific player’s mistake.
This is football, which is not about any individual player’s error but rather a series of mistakes. I thanked the boys in the locker room for their dedication. We must prepare for the game against North Macedonia, said Petrakov.
The team, led by Alexander Petrakov, currently sits in third place with 4 points after 3 games. North Macedonia leads the group, and Armenia will face them at home on October 13.
The results of the team under Petrakov’s leadership have not been impressive. The Ukrainian specialist took charge of the team in January 2023 ahead of the 2024 European Championship qualifiers. The Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) had announced that the goal for the Armenian team was to qualify for the European Championship finals.
In his first qualifying campaign, the 67-year-old specialist failed to achieve the FFA’s goal with his players. If we look at the coach’s work through statistics, we see the following:
Petrakov has led the Armenian national team in 17 matches, of which they have won 4. One of these victories was in a friendly match against Kazakhstan (2-1). Under his leadership, the team has also drawn 4 matches, one of which was another friendly against Cyprus (2-2). The remaining 9 matches ended in defeat.
The team scored 22 goals in 17 games and conceded 25. Notably, under Petrakov’s leadership, Armenia has conceded at least one goal in every match.
Three matches remain in the Nations League qualifying stage. The decisive game will be the home match against North Macedonia in Yerevan, where a point loss could eliminate Armenia from the competition.
